I've been thinking of doing more summoning spells to get some more practice. Anyone have ideas on what/who to summon?

If you want to practice summoning, it's always a good idea before hand to ask the enity for permession. Set up a date or time of the summoning and make sure it's okay with the entity. Being summoned without prior warning is seen as rude.

By summoning do you mean evocation or invocation ? Lucifuge rofocale is generally very easy to evoke and willing to help out newbies.

Conjurations are more complex then just reciting words and focusing your intent, there are a lot of factors to consider, like having a purpose, preparing to negotiate with a spirit, building a bond, respect (and this is just for low level conjurations). Without having the proper requirements, it would be like trying to tame a hungry lion.

And more importantly, you have to have the ability to sense and understand energies clearly, otherwise you wont know what is going on. Like having a conversation with a friend, you need all your senses to communicate.

I think it'd be interesting to try to summon the spirit of an ancestor of yours. I'd start by researching the specific person. It might be easier than a random spirit and you get to learn more about yourself and your family.
