I agree! Ginger and honey have always been my go to for the flu or a cold. I actually mix it with peppermint and a squeeze of fresh lemon or orange juice. I've found it can really help with some of the symptoms.

Sage tea is another good choice, if you can get past the medicinal (almost Robitussin) taste of it. I usually brew a cup of it with some cinnamon sicks, lemon, and honey at the start of a cold, and I've found it actually helps me get over it much more quickly.

I know you're talking specifically about the cold and flu, but I'm throwing it out there because I swear it helped keep me from catching the cold when my employer and my client both caught it. Both of them coughed right in my face, but I still didn't catch it. I was making "golden milk" to help boost my immune system and clear my complexion. It's great for a wide range of things, including the cold and flu :)

I've personally never worked with it, but my father and a friend of his use it. His friend usually just dissolves a teaspoon of it in a glass of water and drinks it every other morning. From what I hear, it works fairly well, though I am not sure he uses it specifically for colds. I believe he has another health issue that he takes it for.

Oh, just in water? You should let him know that if he takes it with pepper it absorbs into his body more easily. He could always swallow a couple pepper corns like pills with it. I like to mix it in my coffee. I was following the golden milk recipe and decided to change it up a bit by adding coffee with it. Coffee, turmeric powder, pepper, chocolate almond milk, and some ginger powder. Always make sure to stir before every drink ^^; since a lot of it doesn't dissolve, lol
