A basic rule of thumb I like to tell people is that magic does not forsake science as it has no direct influence of the physical world (though one can hold the view that it can indirectly influence matters). Beyond that, expose yourself to various beliefs, paradigms, practices, etc. and eventually you'll form your own understanding of how things work. Never take anything for face value without first critically thinking of it.
It would also do you well to take the time to understand what you are reading in more than one context before you speak of it, unless asking for questions. This can help prevent regurgitating misinformation or legitimate information without understanding it first. When researching, always validate your sources and cross reference them with other sources - though there are some things where you can't validate sources, like when it comes to UPG (Unverified Personal Gnosis) - a lot of material is written in the personal views and ideas of the author and it's not always clarified that this is the case. If someone claims something is traditional, then ask for sources or search for them yourself to fact check.
