More simple spells

Like a lot of people I have just started out learning about and studing magic but the main problem I have is I can't seem to find spells for beginners I have done the psi/psy (depending on who you ask) so much that I can create one just by making the gesture (holding a ball) and I've been told I can do things with the energy but haven't been given a good explanation so something that was idiot proof would be perfect so that newbies like me can start learning

You can't find any because there aren't any.

All spells contain basic principles that need to be learnt before you can cast properly.

Spells shouldn't (in general) cast before they know the basics, once you know the basics you can write your own "simple" spells for yourself.

Well... First you have an understanding of what a spell is. From my experience and a general consesus with others, a spell requires, at a minimum, three things.

  1. Raising energy .
  2. Imbuing the energy with intention
  3. Dispersing or directing that energy.

With these three things in mind a spell can be beautifully simplistic in nature while also being effective and 'potent'.

Another thing to take into account, what are you trying to accomplish and do you feel driven to accomplish this? If you aren't attempting to curse someone or you don't have a driving need for cash, a spell to bring either of these events could be rather moot, as you would lack both internal motivation for such things and you lack the experience to work past the 'lack of motivation' stumbling block. If you don't have a particular working in mind, I highly suggest sticking to spell-like cleansing rituals, this will give you a feel for energy work in terms of all three 'requirements'. Unlike some forms of energy work, cleansing can create a pallable difference in the environment and 'open you up' to 'chance occurences'.

A note on psy balls: While not fruitless for practicing energy work and visualization, don't get caught up in delusions of 'elemental bending' or other 'astounding things' through that practice.

Not stupid, just inexperienced and learning. We were all there once, and we all have so much to learn.

Well, if you're serious about learning how to do magic and with starting from the rock-bottom then you don't start out by casting spells, you start out by learning how and why magic works.

You see, there is no such thing as an "easy" spell or a "beginner" spell. One either understands how magic works and has mastered the basics...in which case the magic will work..or you haven't done that sort of work..and no spell will work no matter how "easy" it seems.

Casting a successful spell involves much more than finding some spell on the internet or in a book, saying some words, lighting a candle, waving a wand of any of that sort of thing. In order for magic to work you need to understand how and why it works in the first place. Grounding and centering, visualization, focus and intent, energy manipulation, etc are all necessary first steps to even begin to have a chance at a spell actually working...and more importantly to prevent a spell from back-firing on you.

So, my advice for anyone who is truly serious is to start by reading a few books and practicing the exercises those books will give you. Once you have mastered the basics you won't need anyone to give you spells, you'll be able to create your own spells that will be far more effective than anything you find on the net. Here's the books I suggest:

"Before You Cast a Spell" by Carl McColman

"Spells and How They Work" by Janet and Stewart Farrar

"The Veil's Edge" by Willow Polson

"Modern Magick" by Donald Michael Kraig

"You see, there is no "easy" spell or "beginner" spell."

I would agree, in terms of the enrgy work involved, but generally speaking there are spells that less complex and involved than others. There spells that require knowledge beyond the basics to accomplish and that stretch into other areas of practice such as spirit work. For example, in Conjure you can work a candle with a petition and this would be considered relatively 'simple', while crafting and caring for a mojo hand would be relatively 'complex'. I don't personally reccomend starting with huge, involved workings where you can get spun in circles with symbolism and steps. This is entirely an opinion, one that seems to be with the general opinion on site. As I said above, I agree with you that to some extent the energy work will never be so simple you can bypass learning the basics.
