Practicing often / rarely

I often see people bashing others if they do not practice often, or if they only do a spell/meditation when nessecary.

Why? What is the difference between practicing/casting every day or every week versus rarely? What difference does it make? We are all still witches, we are still magickal practitioners.

In my opinion, it shouldn't matter if you cast a spell a year or every day - as long as you still stay true to yourself and your identity.

To everyone else, what is your opinion?

I completely agree with you, I am one of those that carries round charms and sigils but only does spells and rituals when I really really need to.

I suppose it comes with time, at the start a lot of people think that to be a witch you have to use magick to solve every problem, whereas when you get settled into it, you realize that spells are an added extra for something important and not a necessity for every tiny thing.

I see no reason to practice every single day and believe that only doing it occasionally is just fine, but I am aware that others will probably feel differently.

agree, living a witchy/magickal life shouldn't be a score sheet of how often you held circle or cast spells, it's incorporating your path into your daily life.

with that said i do feel you should be at least aware of things instead of letting events pass you by [like if your path celebrates the moon cycles, you don't have to hold circle on the full moon, but you should at least be aware what night it's on]

i think it comes back to the 'true witch' verses 'wicca-phase' argument. with so many paths some people feel the need to make a check list that proves you're serious. this list might work for some people, but not everyone, however there are those who feel it's their way or the highway and if you don't have a permanent altar you're not serious, or if you don't cast spells you're not a witch. do the best with what you've got. maybe you're in a rut and need to force yourself to meditate because you want to daily, fine, but to meditate daily because that's what others do, no.

I say do what works and feels the best for you. At the end of the day we're our own person with our own thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Whatever your reason is for doing something, that's your reason. You don't need to justify it unless you feel the need to.

But that's just my two cents.

I don't really think it's anyone elses business how often you practice, what kind of offerings you give, what god you worship, what religion you follow, your relationship with that god, or how you interpret your religion.

I just figure why not live and let live? What right do I have to judge another if they aren't hurting anyone? What goes on between them and their god is their business. If your god doesn't like your offerings or how you pray to them I'm guessing they would probably tell you.

One guy who worships the same god as me offered Dr Pepper and Jack Daniels to our god and said he received his blessings the next day. Honestly, that still makes me laugh. Because that's just awesome. God likes soda who woulda thunk it? See now I don't feel weird offering him Wild Cherry Pepsi hah.

lol soda as an offering! eh, so long as it works. sometimes i've debated offering some candy or chocolate because i like it and sharing my chocolate bar is my way of saying i care, but since my matron Goddess is [among other things] a harvest Goddess i worry she would slap me [cosmically speaking, but she can be blunt when she wants to] so when i decide to offer sweets i go with honey or home-made cookies. but in situations like offerings, it should really be gifts you put thought into, and in regards to junk food, i would hold off until you know the deity on a more personal level. [but that's interesting to know. i'll try giving chocolate as an offering one day. if i disappear form the site for a week, you'll know it didn't end well lol]
