As Toxic said, it is used for generalization, not much more, it helps to sort out spells based on what they do or what is often times the intent behind them, depending upon who you are.
This post was not about magick and its colour, but of the use of colour in magick, there are huge lists that can be found both online and in books.
But colour magick is not only a generalisation, it can be used alone with no other magickal aspects. Such as wearing orange socks when you are planning a speach, or green when you need a little extra luck.
H2O is correct it isn't about the generalization or the colour of magick itself but "colour magick" a branch of magick which uses colour as representation, i.e Red candles/clothes/herbs/stones can be used for passion, lust, fire and love. Yellow clothes/stones/herbs/flowers can be used for representation of the element of Air and for intellect.
Hey Silk,You always have very helpful posts
And you know your stuff,I consider you a very knowledgeable member im suprised to see you go unranked for so long
thanks but yeah i know H2O and she is a excellent colour magick user so if you want to know anything about that branch of magick as well as several others just ask her.
It isn't as speciefic and simplistic as colour coding things..
It is using the colour and the intent behind it to create a magickal result. it is a lower form of magick with no words or "incantation" or "spells", many people do this without even knowing it, but if you have learned to used it regularly. With intent it can be a very powerful form of "magick" that can be subtly used, especially for people in the "broom closet", as I was when I began practicing it.
I prefer to call it color association. It takes out some of the confusion.
Certain colors are believed to represent certain things:
Red is love or anger; generally passion
White is purity or light
Green is money, greed, or envy
Blue is saddness, and often healing
Pink is a softer form of love
There are many more
