There's many things you can do, and depending on the curse certain things work better. I will agree [slightly] with Brying, most curses are self inflicted, so while you may feel some negative effects from a curse, ignoring it will help because you're not feeding more energy into the curse.
Curses are negative energy, so a lot of the time it isn't someone cursing you but you charging yourself with a lot of negative energy for whatever reason. It is wise to do regular cleansings and protections. Smudging your house with sage once a month or having a bath with sea salt can help 'wash away' the negative energy. Daily shielding can also reduce the negative energy. Keeping your thoughts in good order can also help. Even if you don't believe in curses, constantly thinking negatively can bring negative results to your mental and sometimes physical health.
To protect from a curse, you can do the things mentioned above, you can also wear a protection charm, and place a protection charm [or cast a spell] in your house to keep curses and negative energy away. I suggest reading a book on the subject so you can better recognize the signs and understand how to repell/dispell the curse.
