I do not think there is an absolute correct method, as there are so many traditions and systems of magic -- religious or otherwise. But I do think there are some essential elements in any practice, narrowed down to meditation (leading directly to singularity of thought, concentration, and focus; indirectly helping with other things), energy manipulation (whether the practitioner believes it is merely emotional energy, spiritual energy, or whatever type; it is the energy associated with the intent of the working, and focused in the direction of the desired result), visualizations (the ability to conceptualize, as specifically as possible, the desired outcome, is absolutely necessary).
I believe he is right on that there is no absolute correct method, it all depends on how a person processes their own thoughts I for example learn from other peoples descriptions and tips while someone else might learn just from trial and error(practicing) although I could personally advise you enough to get you started if you tell me what's confusing you.
