How would you assess the work of, say a cabinet maker? You would look at a cabinet he has made, and then be able to assess how good he is at his job. It is the same here. A member is assessed by what is revealed by the member during his/her membership.
You don't have to be a cabinet maker yourself to assess competence. I don't have to be an Adept myself to assess another member as Adept!

I think I can spot where this has all gone a bit messy, yes originally I was asking questions about rankings, but this lead me to ask another more detailed question.

Which again pertained specifically to being an Adept, so it would have looked like I didn't listen to Larks original answer, when I was asking another question, maybe what I could have done instead is to simply state that this was a new question being asked.

This topic has repeatedly come up and been exhausted thoroughly.
Don't worry about ranking. Worry about creating meaningful posts that say something worth reading. Ranking will follow.
