I see a lot of questions on this one so I thought I would offer a few tips that helped me.
Tarot can be overwhelming if you want it to be
There is a lot to learn and remember so I have a few tips and I'm sure othet readers will have more tips.
First find your deck
Get a few books on Tarot and read them all
You will notice some ideas on the meanings of each card will match and others will vary.Go through the cards and write down a list of each card and the meanings you feel fit each card best, each card has several different meanings
Start with the Major-
I suggest learning the story of the journey of the Fool
It tells the story of the Majors starting at the 0-fool and how he grows and learns during each stage in life, each new card is a lesson in life.
Now the minors
I would seperate them by suit
First learn about each suits major theme and what element and mood they relate to
Then jot down each card and meanings you like best
Learn a couple of spreads
Give practice readings
Learn to tie cards together to create a story
Learn about the colors and correspond keys
There is information in the number of each card as well
Learn reversals and what the different meanings are
Now as you practice get a feeling of the cards and see what each card means to you personally, make a new list
Go with your cut instincts and over time it will become second nature. The key is to study and practice and grow
