Okay, so I'm relatively new to magic. My, far more experienced, friend is helping me by starting me off on simple things. We have tried some stuff, but one thing always happens. I can't feel energy! The only indication I get is a small headache a few minutes later. She tested my shielding/blocking and says I'm really great at that, but how can I do anything when I can't feel energy? Do I have some sort of mental block? is there anything I can do to "awaken" me to this?
I struggled with this in the beginning. I had to really focus on my meditation.
I experimented with different types of guided meditation, but it was to no avail. I was always distracted, I had shallow breathing, my mind was racing etc...
What helped me, was finding a position where I was extremely relaxed and able to de-clutter my mind. When I was successful at that, I was able to become more self aware. I focused on every sensation my body was feeling from cold spots to hot spots. When these methods worked, I finally had my 'aha' moment. I was able to connect to my environment and my body's response to the slightest change of temperature or vibration.
I was often confused with I should be feeling to, I was listening to other people's experiences and feeling discouraged because I wasn't feeling the same thing. Later, I realized I was feeling energy, but it came to me in feelings of warmth and heat.
Practice meditation, and become aware of your body's responses. Don't get discouraged, you'll tap in eventually.
In addition... It's important to note that mental blocks could be alleviated by avoiding certain things like stimulants, alcohol, medication. If you're too tired, that makes it more difficult to heighten your senses. I know it all seems like common sense, but we often take for granted the little things we do to our selves during the day that can offset our state of mind. I am no expert at this, I am just sharing what had helped me. Hopefully, some of my blabbering might be useful in your situation... Good luck!

When I first began studying years ago, the simplest exercise I came across that had to do with feeling energy was simply rubbing my hands together to create friction for heat. Already the heat is considered energy. After rubbing them together bring the hands maybe just an inch apart and see what you feel. Try this, ask yourself what you feel in the space between your hands. From there,by doing slightly more advanced exercises, you can build up your awareness of energy.
I have had the same problem. I always use to say I couldn't meditate. But I had to change my thought processes and decided to make meditation work for me. My mind was always racing but just find what works for you. It's a process you will find your way
