I struggled with this in the beginning. I had to really focus on my meditation.
I experimented with different types of guided meditation, but it was to no avail. I was always distracted, I had shallow breathing, my mind was racing etc...
What helped me, was finding a position where I was extremely relaxed and able to de-clutter my mind. When I was successful at that, I was able to become more self aware. I focused on every sensation my body was feeling from cold spots to hot spots. When these methods worked, I finally had my 'aha' moment. I was able to connect to my environment and my body's response to the slightest change of temperature or vibration.
I was often confused with I should be feeling to, I was listening to other people's experiences and feeling discouraged because I wasn't feeling the same thing. Later, I realized I was feeling energy, but it came to me in feelings of warmth and heat.
Practice meditation, and become aware of your body's responses. Don't get discouraged, you'll tap in eventually.
