In Ancient Greece Nyx wasn't a very present in daily practice and worship. She was often in the background of others stories but never really took a staring role in many stories of note.

There weren't many if any cults dedicated to Nyx, Although her statues were often built in temples to Artemis, representing the night as Artemis is the Goddess of the moon.

There has been a recent spike in interest surrounding Nyx due to the House Of Night fantasy book series that featured her. Because of the series people have begun to develop ways of working with and worshiping Nyx, Although these practices are new some of them have the potential to work. As would taking the basic principals of working with other Gods and personalizing them for Nyx.

Nyx is a interesting goddess. Some reference Aether or Aither as the god of the upper air or the air which the gods breathe which surrounds Olympus. Night is about as primordial as one can get when you're talking about elemental forces as night permeates this world and the universe.

Well, in regards to Nyx, I've only ever personally seen her really work with one human witch. My friend Kiki, who is the one that introduced me to Hellenic Paganism, is a devout worshiper of Nyx. But Nyx is picky. She won't work with me. Along with that, I would avoid Erebus, her husband. He doesn't really care for humans that much. They're really more gods you fear respectfully.

Nyx is not a goddess of the night, she is the personification of the night, meaning she is the night. She does not have a sphere of influence over night, she just is the night personified.

I've never had a problem concerning Nyx or Erebus. They were amongst the first Gods I prayed to as a daily thing. Occassionally my daily prayers become patchy in consistency, but I do my best to always include them.

But if you can telll that they (Any God or Goddess) doesn't wish to have relations then it would be best to just veer away and be respectful.

I agree completly with Sillieh.Nyx is in short the personification of the night and to say that you worship her is to say that you worship the night, not a goddes of night.

She is (like some have previously said time and time again) the personification of night, not a goddess of night.

Nyx is sort of like the physical presence of night, in Greek myth the Greek gods avoided and feared her because of her power, and because she tended to be unpredictable. Not to dissimilar from Chaos itself, and Nyx tended to be rather malevolent at least to the other Greek Deities. I have always viewed her with respect more so than the gods.

I pray to Nyx and Erebus often, but I wanted to clarify my intentions in stating what previously I said. I have several friends in person who practice very similarly to me, and I've found that in my (and my friends' experience), without being entirely sure how to word this observation of mine, Erebus doesn't particularly like to be asked for favors. In fact we've had some rather violent reactions, without getting into details.

Respecting them, homewever, is perfectly fine. I believe that they are, as I understand and practice, that they're the oldest of the primordials. With that age and wisdom comes power. I remember once that in asking Erebus for guidance, I very clearly got the message "that is not my department".

So by all means, worship them. Pray to them, respect them, serve them, etc. But don't ask them menial favors. They're old gods, and they've lived long enough that at this point, I would say that to them, we humans are like one hit wonders. Flashy and loud but I don't remember their name.

Granted, this is all just my opinion based upon my experiences. You may have a different reaction.

Blessings,
Iznaret
