Meditation is always a good start, especially when trying to find something personal and hidden such as a spirit animal. Dreams are also a good way of finding them, often if you have an animal recurring in a dream it may actually be your spirit animal.
Sadly this is all I know on the topic but I hope it gives you a small start.
It really depends on how well you are at meditation. Usually any altered state of consciousness will work. Having the Third Eye chakra opened too may help with that. Or the species of spirit animal you have (as in what animilia it is) may be more attached to you in a short time span.
You can also find them in dreams.
Animals in dreams are common manifestations of unconscious imagery and guidance. If the animal in your dream is a power or spirit animals that has guided you in the past, pay particular attention to the message your dream delivers.
Animals in dreams whether they are spirit animals or not typically represent:
feelings that have not been fully acknowledged yet by the dreamer
aspect of the personality or feelings considered as ?wild? or hard to control;
basic instinctual drive or emotions;
an event or person?s influence in the dreamer?s life
intuitive guidance using the shape of an animal spirit guide
over time, your spirit animal may or may not change depending on whether or not YOU change as a person. It's a gradual change, but usually a spirit animal represents the person they choose.
