If your other cats died recently then the remaining ones may be scenting their illness and/or fear and thus avoiding the room because of that. If that is the case they should resume their normal activities in time as those scents fade.

I agree with Lark. But also, it may be that the other cats can smell the cats that are no longer there. That might "puzzle" them somewhat.

Our last baby passed the beginning of July, but they didn't start this behavior until way after that, beginning of August. I don't know why they waited so long after he passed to do this.

Have you checked for poison? If the cats died from a poison, that smell might make them react as a "don't go there" thing. Even a mouse or other small critter that has that, or another, smell might give your cats a fore warning. Just a suggestion..

We don't use Decon, or any other type of poison. We did not see any dead mice. All our babies passed of old age, 15, or older.

What can we do besides another sage smudge? Would Dragon's Blood be better?

I'd be careful with the sage smudge or the Dragonsblood. Cats are very sensitive to heave scents such as that and it might discourage them even more from entering the room

not to drag it up but what did your cats die from? old age, or you don't know? i would get my other cats looked over by a vet to make sure there was no disease passed from one to the other.

as mentioned, cats can spell subtle differences, they might smell the other cat, or the incense you're burning in the room [i've used sage smudge to cleanse my house, my cat is fine with it, but i go through the whole house instead of burning sage in one room for a long period of time] they could sense some spirit in the room but i doubt it for one thing if the spirit/spirits was of your cat/cats i don't think the other cats would be acting hostile. second, you should sense the cat yourself. try meditating in the room and see if you feel anything strange [cold, nervous, calm] if it's your cats spirit you might 'feel' your cat there with you.

if i were you however, i would look for any logical answers like disease/germs, or strong odours before concluding a spirit. i'm not saying it's not a spirit, but i would rather keep the living safe before turning to the dead.

You must have missed my last post. They all died of old age.

Though possible, I would say it is the scent of the late cat that is keeping your current kitties out of the room. Best of luck cats are amazing companions! xx
