I am completley new to this whole thing, and I have a few questions. Could someone who knows about casting spells and such help me out?

Well, Lareece, if you're really new to all of this, the way is to start at the bottom with meditation, and learning what magic is and is not.

Thank you! And I'm not sure if you can help with this, but I have another question. So in all the movies and things like that, that I've seen (I know that's not a reliable source but that's all I've really known about) the 'witches' or 'casters' or whatever they call themselves are usually born with some type of power. So I guess my question is, do you have to be born with some type of powers or can you just practice with Magic and eventually get to the point where you can actually do a spell and it work? And do you have to be a certain religion or something for these things to work?

The answer is .....

While some people may have a natural inclination towards something, it is a practice which can be worked on by anyone. That is you can develop your abilities. Nobody is really born a witch or with 'magical powers,' so to speak. We all have the ability to use magic.

And yes: You will get to a point at which you can work magic successfully.

Religion is not the same as magic. They can be associated, and some religions incorporate aspects of magic. But magic can be practiced without any association with a religion. There is a vast array of beliefs of people who practice magic -- even atheists.

You are misunderstanding the same idea that many people misunderstand. That spells are magic! They are not magic! A spell is a ritual attempt to obtain a magical result. I have worked with magic all my life, but I have never cast a spell.

Well, if you're serious about learning how to do magic and with starting from the rock-bottom then you don't start out by casting spells, you start out by learning how and why magic works.

You see, there is no such thing as an "easy" spell or a "beginner" spell. One either understands how magic works and has mastered the basics...in which case the magic will work..or you haven't done that sort of work..and no spell will work no matter how "easy" it seems.

Casting a successful spell involves much more than finding some spell on the internet or in a book, saying some words, lighting a candle, waving a wand of any of that sort of thing. In order for magic to work you need to understand how and why it works in the first place. Grounding and centering, visualization, focus and intent, energy manipulation, etc are all necessary first steps to even begin to have a chance at a spell actually working...and more importantly to prevent a spell from back-firing on you.

So, my advice for anyone who is truly serious is to start by reading a few books and practicing the exercises those books will give you. Once you have mastered the basics you won't need anyone to give you spells, you'll be able to create your own spells that will be far more effective than anything you find on the net. Here's the books I suggest:

"Before You Cast a Spell" by Carl McColman

"Spells and How They Work" by Janet and Stewart Farrar

"The Veil's Edge" by Willow Polson

"Modern Magick" by Donald Michael Kraig
