paganism dating/ marriage

I have been raised pagan and was told to be accepting and give patience. But when I was little every I try to tell someone about my beliefs they ask "are you a devil worshipper?". Unsurprisingly nothing has changed since I got older. This has become a real barrier in trying share my life with another. What are you guyses experiences in this? How do you get past this barrier?

It is always better to get to know people before you reveal your beliefs. And it is always better to try to mix with other Pagans. (There are many of us!). Meeting a new "date", talk of many things; of sports you like, films you like, books you read. Get to know the other person very well before you start talking about Paganism.

I agree, religion/beliefs should be the last thing on your minds. It should be the personality, the interests outside of religion, anyone defined wholly by their religion comes across as a fanatic.

When that talk comes up, merely come from a calm manner. If they are not pagan reassure their concern with "I know it might seem strange to you, but if you'd just let me explain it a little...".

If they can't get past it, then they are either bigoted, ignorant, or stupid and I have no idea why you would want to share your life with such people anyway!

Most Christians are fearful of the unseen and they believe anyone who practices the arts of supernatural magic is a satan worshipper.Don't worry about their ignorance. You do not need that in your life. You will find one pagan out there that loves you.Just give it time.

I agree with pendragin, that It is always better to get to know people before you reveal your beliefs, etc. Also focus on knowing the person, what they are passionate about, make eye contact, start with open ended questions instead of yes and no questions, once they know you better, ask them questions about their passion, and listen, then in the future use the same passion to educate them about yours, And if they don't accept it or believe in it, that's fine, as long as they like you for who you are. Don't try to change them, accept them for who they are, and keep doing what you like best.
