one of the older witches in my town started talking to me the other day, and when we talked, he said the magic is stronger when spoken in latin, and some spells can only be spoken in latin, is that true?
I do my magic in three different languages, but I have never noticed any difference.
Spells backfire for many different reasons, but not because one used Spanish instead of Latin. The only way it could make a difference, when you really believe it. Like believing that after doing a spell, you have to forget it. I don't forget my spell, I don't cast them in Latin - and it works for me very well.
If I were you - I would check every thing he says just to be safe.

The best language to cast a spell in is the one with which you are most familiar and which you have no trouble pronouncing. What puts much of the energy into a spell is the focus and intent you bring to it. If you are trying to concentrate on a language you don't know well or on how to say the words you're detracting from the spell itself rather than enhancing it by doing it in Latin or any other language.
As an experienced caster in different languages I can attest that no one language is superior in casting than another. Spells recited in Latin are not more powerful than spells cast in other languages. The key to stronger castings lies in the connection to and the understanding of the language you use while casting. Proper pronunciation in any language is important as well as one's focus and ability gather and redirect energy.
Spoken words in a spell is just one of many methods to manifest your desire into the universe, the only reason Latin is more preferable is because foreign language makes spell work seem more mystical. On the other hand language that corresponds to spiritual beings, like Enochian is more reliable when contacting angels.
