Food Substitues
By:

Hello friends!

I was wondering if you guys have any suggestions on substitues when craving for sweets, or carbs, or even salty items. I am not pregnant, I just like to eat!

It would be better for me if I could substitue certain foods for much better/healthier items. Even if there is a simple herb that I could make a tea from that could calm my cravings, that would be great! Thank you.

Look into counciling if you cannot stop yourself. Acupuncture is said to help. For sugar go for fruit, don't know a carb substitute or a salt, but I'm not a fan of those so I never looked into it. A co-worker loved carbs, she usually would go 'I could have a muffin and a bagel now, or pasta for dinner' basically the reward system if you have the will power to hold off for a large something once a week.

I would say that stevia would be a good sugar substitute, if it's legal where you live. And I don't know of a salt or carb substitute, but you could look into things like lchf for carbs.

I'm not a nutritionalist but there are 3 food groups that i know of that can help with carb cravings. 1. Whole grains such as whole wheat and brown rice. 2. Fruits and Vegatables and fruits will help with the sweet cravings. I've substituted sugar completely with natural Honey. Its much better for your body, since your system can easily break it down. 3. And also, beans (legumes) give you energy and you shouldn't have any carb cravings if you eat enough of these. Just watch your calorie intake on them!
Hope that helps!

Suggesting fruits and grains for cravings of sugar and carbs (if it has the former, it will almost always have the latter. I say this as a type 1 Diabetic aid) is really just suggesting more natural foods to get those sugars and carbs. Don't go crazy on the fruits because excess amounts of sugar is still bad for you.

If you're craving carbs, either balance them with proteins (nut butters, meat, cheese, etc.), or work the carbs off. Proteins help make you feel more full and carbs are not bad for you. They are what provide you energy, so just use the carbs you gain and you'll be fine.

If you are still wishing to help yourself eat right, I would suggest using an app (or one similar) like MyFitnessPal. It helps you log your food and find various nutritional facts if you cannot find them on the package (or if there is no package).

Well, eat more fruits and vegetables. Eat a lot of bananas, berries, apples, citrus. Basically any fruit. And a lot of vegetables, particularly those naturally dark in color, like spinach and eggplant and peppers. I'm not sure what else. Maybe things like rice, turkey, and fish.
