Deities and gods are thought forms that contain a mass of energy_ even if you think it's not living thought forms exist even without mass to make them living. So it is a yin yang in energy because you can't completely control it. and it does not always act as waves.

I really like this thread, so I'm bringing it back up top.

I personally don't see magick as a living thing. I think that magick can be produced by living things, but isn't alive persay. Kind of like oxygen, which is produced by plants but has no conciousness or life force.

Actually there can be a whole debate between this factor, I personally believe that magick is living, this is because if it wasn't energy wouldn't work, we wouldn't be able to breathe, it's as living as we are...honestly energy flows like the waters, and moves through the trees, there was one time when they thought the forest wasn't living.

I believe that all magick involves spirits whether or not you invite them. Every force or essence has a top spirit that one may call a deity and lesser spirits. Even when we are not truly meaning to work with them, we are. Just like everyday we do not truly mean to breathe in air which is ruled by spirits, but we do and it's just apart of life. Magick is in every facet of life and it's when we use those facets to manifest our own wills that makes it "practicing magick". At least that is the way I was taught.

"Spirit" in my practice is pretty much synonymous with "life force" but generally considered with intelligence. So is magick a living thing? Yes and no. Magick is the application of will to manifest a goal, but what is working to manifest that goal is alive in the sense that everything has a working consciousness and individuality that you can learn from and work with passingly or deeply, depending on your choice.

I like this question.

Magick is the energy of the universe, yes? When used as a noun. And the God and Goddess are simply male and female ideas/parts of this energy. The energy comes from, is part of, and even could be the God and Goddess. So every time you cast a spell its like you are taking a part of the goddess to make your will come true. (Bare with me here) its like a tree. The main power of the universe is like the trees trunk, then the tree splits into two a little ways up, these two are the god and goddess. Then the god and goddess continue to split into smaller more usable divisions that we can use like branches and leaves, those are the parts we take for our spells. Though, since we take such a little part of the god/goddess, it takes the path of least resistance. It takes what you told it you wanted and tries to accomplish it without running into too much trouble. Since its such a small part it doesn't take too much to stop it. Also since its such a small piece, it doesn't understand exactly what you mean unless you are really specific.

It would also then kind of have to have some sort of consciousness. It is also more connected to your unconscious. So while you are consciously asking for one thing, your subconscious may really need something different. So the magick kind of picks up your unconscious needs as opposed to what you think you want.

If any of that made sense

The posts on this thread are mistaking magic for spells. They are not the same!
A spell is a ritual wish,to try to change circumstance or environment.Very much like a prayer. The difference being that a prayer is "asking" for help from a higher authority. A spell is a do-it-yourself operation.
Magic is changing one or more things into something different. Magic is a Craft. It is real! Humans have been doing it for thousands of years, and are still doing it today! Most members on this site wouldn't recognise real magic if it jumped up and bit them! Real magic is witchcraft, and there is nothing supernatural about it!

Your right. What I was really referring to would be energy then. I assumed that's what you meant but I didn't take the time to specify and correct myself.

Yeah, Majix is like the power of connections between things. Majix is alive and helps things that are alive.

Not quite,Dezzy or Lavina. Let me try to put it into the simplest terms.
Take a pot of white paint and a pot of red paint. Put a little of the red paint into the white paint.Right before your eyes you have created something different; pink paint! That's magic! (Of course,it gets a lot more complicated than that!)
Now, if you blow out the candles on a Birthday Cake, and then make a silent wish. That is not magic. That's a spell! The spell may come true, it may not; but the point is that nothing happens right there and then. Nothing has changed in the same way as the paint has!
Magic is changing one or more things into something totally different, instantly. A spell takes time.
Scientists use magic everyday! But they don't like the words "magic" or "witchcraft"; so they call it "research". But they are doing the same thing witches have been doing for thousands of years. Changing things!

The above example is a bit too simple; because the paint itself hasn't changed, only the colour. So, if I may, let me try another simple example.
Take an amount of flour, water, yeast, a little sugar, a little salt. Mix them all together. Apply heat. You have now changed all those things into something entirely different. Bread!
That's magic!
