Value of Herbal Medicine
By:
Herbs are plants that feed, nourish and nurture the body. Herbs can give us strength and enhance our immune system. Herbal supplements can cleanse internally thereby aiding in more efficient body functions. More efficient functionality benefits us by aiding in quicker healing and better defenses against disease. People who have been practicing medicine over the ages have been studying about herbs and what methods they can use to heal our bodies. We feel that studying what has been learned about herbs and then using that knowledge is taking responsibility for our own health and well being.

Herbal remedies are a type of alternative medicine that originates from plants and plant extracts. Herbal remedies have been around for centuries, and were the precursor to modern medicine. Herbs are used to heal illnesses and disease and to address psychological concerns. Herbal remedies are obtained from a wide variety of natural resources including plant leaves, bark, berries, flowers, and roots. Herbal medicine remains a popular alternative throughout Europe, Australia, China and the Far East. Natural remedies are growing in popularity throughout the United States and Canada.
Medical doctors in Germany, China, India, and other places in the world have used natural herbal remedies as a first line of defense against disease because they work! Around the world traditional healers currently use natural herbs and herbal remedies to provide health care. Some say that nearly eighty percent of the human population receives herbal remedies for the treatment of disease and injury. In many countries natural supplements are a key to providing good health care.

One of the advantages of using a natural herbal remedy to initially address a health issue is the non existence of negative side effects. Many of the drugs that are used today have so many side effects that the drug can actually be worse than the original disease. The warnings on some of today?s most popular drugs can include statements like ?may be fatal?, ?an unusual urge to gamble or increased sexual urges and/or behaviors?, ?may include increased thoughts of suicide?. Anyone watching television or listening to the radio while the popular prescription drugs are being advertized has probably heard these phrases and many more. Drugs are good for some things but they should be used only when absolutely necessary. They can perform miracles but with the miracle comes a heavy price that may include negative side effects and/ or addiction issues.

We all have an immune system that operates continually and is always on call to defend us against toxins, bacteria and viruses. Our body becomes more susceptible when under duress due to a stressful lifestyle or injury. Herbs and herbal remedies can aid in the process the immune system uses to repair damages done by injury, stressful lifestyle, environment, toxins, drugs, alcohol, etc. Our immune systems are miraculous!

Nutrition is the basis for good health and prevention of illness. When we give our immune systems the right tools and the nutrition it needs, many of the health issues can be taken care of before they become unmanageable. With diet and some of the natural herbal remedies that are available today our immune system can be our best ally in the war against disease and illness. There are many herbal remedies that can strengthen the immune system and help it to protect our precious health.

For thousands of years herbs have been used in the treatment of all kinds of ailments. King Solomon, one of the wisest men of his era, studied herbs for their medicinal purposes. The Chinese people have recorded specific effects of every herb found in their country over the last 5 centuries. They use that knowledge to refine the medical benefits of certain herbal remedies. The Native Americans have a vast knowledge of herbal supplements for medicinal purposes as well. All throughout history we can learn about and see the effects that herbs have had on humanity.

It?s just common sense that Mother Nature would place all of the sustaining elements needed to support life and defend life against disease in something that is easily obtainable and desirable to the taste. It also stands to reason that if all of the nutrition that we require exists in the plants that we eat then plants should also contain the elements needed for healing. There is no doubt in our mind that herbs or plants grow here on earth for us to use for our benefit.
There is an enormous movement towards natural health. This seems to be due to the side effects experienced by people using prescription drugs, verses the effective results without side effects that are prevalent with most herbal supplements. More and more people are taking comfort in the remedies that their Grandma used. They are finding that there is real value in herbal supplements and that herbal supplements are an inexpensive way to provide the daily nutrition that is needed to stay healthy.

In herbs we find the most remarkable combinations of elements to suit every requirement of the body. Not only are they the major source of food, but they are also tonics, cleansers, laxatives, sedatives, stimulants, diuretics and even stone solvents. There is not one organ or function of the body that does not use, in some way, the constituents contained in those wonderful natural herbs. We owe our existence to the plant world. Even the air we breathe is a gift from plants as they convert carbon dioxide to oxygen. In this same way these plants extract vitamins and minerals from the earth and convert them into a form that we can use. I don?t know about you, but we would much rather have a nice spinach salad then a mud pie to get my daily supplement of minerals. Let all of the herbs in their natural form contribute to your health and well being. Become a part of the movement. We did and We are better for it.

On the whole, a good informative post. With one exception, natural herbs as food.
Do you eat vegetables? Cabbage, carrots, leeks; all that sort of stuff? There is practically no "natural" vegetable eaten by humans in this 21st Century. And there are so many "fads" and "Instructions" about diet. "Don't eat fat; it causes heart disease." It doesn't! "Eat margerine instead of butter." Butter is a natural food; margerine isn't. "Don't eat salt,it's bad for you." It isn't. "Don't eat eggs. Don't drink coffee or tea. Don't eat bread that has gluten." The list goes on and on; and changes every few months.
So what should we believe? If the package says the product is good for your health; it probably isn't. Any product that says it has less salt, less fat, less sugar; avoid it like the plague!

By the way, plants do not "covert carbon dioxide into oxygen". carbon dioxide IS oxygen! What a plant does is "release" the pure oxygen during daylight; but during the hours of darkness it actually releases Carbon Dioxide! Admittedly, plants release less CO2 than oxygen! But we shouldn't say that plants only release oxygen. It simply isn't true!

That's right Brysing! Good catch. Photosynthesis is a bit more complicated than that, and instead of giving a biology lesson, I can just offer the bottom line from this website:

'Green plants DO NOT convert carbon dioxide (CO2) into oxygen (O2). The oxygen comes from water. Green plants DO, however, convert atmospheric CO2 into sugars. So, the oxygen atoms in the CO2 wind up in the sugars'

Well, I could have gone into more details of compounds, molecular structure etc. But it was mainly the Members language that maybe was at fault. He said "convert" when he may have meant something other.

Apologies for any confusion guys, I was merely placing emphasis on the benefits of herbal medicine, that was the point of my post. Brysing thank you for your comments though as that does relive any confusion I had caused.
