I think it's been there for years. I grew up sleeping over in that basement, and I use to go there to paint as a teen. I would always see something out of the corner of my eye, but that was the first time I ever actually saw it. I think if it were going to do harm, it would have done so decades ago, but I could be wrong.

I suggest just being careful. At the first sign of bad, do a cleansing. Or just cleanse to get rid of it. Things can appear weird, but be good thing, and visa versa. Just be careful. BB

I would suggest that you read up on Shadow People or Shadow Beings.
At first they seem to appear only out of the corner of your eye, in your peripheral vision. Often dashing out into the corner of a wall, behind a TV, or into the darkness, when you look in their direction. You ignore it assuming that the light and your mind is playing tricks, until it appears right in front of you before they disappear again.
Who are Shadow People? Are they illusions and hallucinations, ghosts, harmful spirits, inter-dimensional beings or time travellers? No one knows really knows for sure.
Carl Jung's explanation of Shadow apparitions is extremely interesting. Do look it up.
i would say chimera but it sounds rather strange, maybe kitsune by the fur halfling or leprechaun that's what i can think of for now :/ sorry for not helping much but there are so many creatures but now that i think of it i read it on a book from mexico (i live in mexico) maybe it could be an Aluxe almost matches the same characteristics if my memory serves well they are playful spirits some are shy but want to see humans they are small and play with children they're no harm but for an Aluxe to be in another country that's something strange anyway i gave you some ideas :p luck with the identifying

The closest thing I can find on the description is Puck, of Celtic myth. I'm still looking, because your description of its actions doesn't match Puck.
I'm going to look up Jung's views on shadow apparitions myself, that seems the way to go for this thing.
