What is a natural way to keep ants out of house without pesticides and preferably without killing them? Someone suggested borax but is that correct and is it safe to use?

There are many remedies to stop ants. For instance, they will never cross salt,or anything "sticky". (Providing it is not sweet!)
But it all depends on how they are getting in! The tiniest hole, and ants will get through it!

Borax will indeed deter ants and other creepy things and it is safe to use.

Although, Mindless, I would apply it in a place away from your furry children, as it can be harmful to pets! Cornmeal or cornbread also works, as it expands in the ants digestive system. Use as a last resort to kill them if the borax or salt is not a deterrent.

Gods praise this post! I've had an infestation of ants in my home for as long as I can remember! Of course, the ants are harmless and I really dont mind them taking residence in my home as long as they don't eat my food, but thi is a great post! Thank you!

Thank you Brysing, Lark and Gannon. You are welcome Olivia. I will try both. Borax on base boards and salt on counters. The cats stay outside as they are all strays and mostly feral. Only three want petting the rest just demand food along with the baby oppossum. :-)

I tried everything and the only thing that stopped my ant problem was letting the cellar spiders live. I gave them my house rules, they stayed in their web and I wouldn't attack them. =p

Dry grits will help with ants. Alternative to cornmeal.
