Here's an excellent site about Greek mythology and the Greek Gods. It should give you a good start on learning: http://www.theoi.com/

Hi there John.

I'm happy to help you along your way with the Gods and Goddesses. I've been a Hellenic Polytheist for two years, and a Hellenic Pagan for two more.

You're welcome to mail me if you have any questions concerning the Greek Gods.

Blessed Be.

Lark has already given the first reference I would recommend. That is a great source for information on the Greek deities.

I have been a follower of the Greek gods for just under 30 years, so I have accumulated a bit of knowledge. I would be more than happy to share what I know, but I would need to know more about you. Are you over 18? I am legally ordained clergy, and have to be careful, as it is illegal to give religious instruction to a minor without parental consent. Many states have this law, including the one in which I live.

John, read the Percy Jackson series, and then watch the movies to learn a lot about Greek mythology.

I would not suggest you follow Gust's advice, at all. Reading a fictional series and watching movies isn't going to educate you. Follow Zeus's and Lark's suggestions.

The Percy Jackson novels are fun reads, but are not tools for learning Greek mythology. Many of the concepts in the novels are not at all in line with the myths. Read those books for entertainment and gun stories, but not for actual information about the gods and goddesses of Olympus.

Seriously, Percy Jackson teaching youngsters about Hellenismos? I doubt it. It gives a basis for the mythology, but that is it.

I would start by learning each of greek gods. Not in reference to a movie called Percy Jackson!!!!!

Zeus-King of The Gods. God of the sky, weather, thunder, lightning, law, order, and fate.

Poseidon-God of the sea, rivers, floods, droughts, earthquakes, and the creator of horses; known as the "Earth Shaker".

Hestia-Virgin goddess of the hearth, home and chastity.

Hermes-God of boundaries, travel, communication, trade, thievery, trickery, language, writing, diplomacy, athletics, and animal husbandry

Hera-Queen of the heavens and goddess of marriage, women, childbirth, heirs, kings, and empires.

Hephaestus-Crippled god of fire, metalworking, and crafts.

Hades-King of the underworld and the dead, and god of the earth's hidden wealth, both agricultural produce and precious metals.

Dionysus-God of wine, parties and festivals, madness, chaos, drunkenness, drugs, and ecstasy.

Demeter-Goddess of grain, agriculture and the harvest, growth and nourishment.

Athena-Goddess of intelligence and skill, warfare, battle strategy, handicrafts, and wisdom.

Artemis-Virgin goddess of the hunt, wilderness, animals, young girls, childbirth and plague.

Ares-God of war, bloodshed, and violence.

Apollo-God of light, music, arts, knowledge, healing, plague and darkness, prophecy, poetry, purity, athletism, manly beauty, and enlightenment.

Aphrodite-Goddess of love, beauty, desire, and pleasure.

These are the ones I was able to recall from memory.
