I saw on a Wicca app I have about scourging. While it was an electronic version of a very old BoS, I felt it... IDK. Strange? Because it was listed as a rite and of the Rede. It did say to be careful of course, VERY careful. But I wanted to know if people have ever done that in WICCA in the past or the present? I feel this is important for me to know.
Everyone Indulges themselves in many different forms of rituals or magic, It is just if that person is willing to try it or not, At the end of the day it is down to the individual to try or not, Has nothing to do with being Wiccan or not, Hope this helped explain.

Scourging has been used in many religions over the years as it is thought to purify the soul. It is also one of the Eight Paths to Power within magic where it is used to help raise energy. Remember we're not talking about flogging someone hard enough to inflict injury, so it is not a violation of the Rede by any means as it causes absolutely no harm. The purpose of scourging is to draw the energy to one area of the body and therefore lead to an altered state of consciousness. And yes, it has been used in Wicca. Gerald Gardner talks about it and about why it is done in his books "Witchcraft Today" and "The Meaning of Witchcraft". Not all Wiccans practice it and if you don't see it as part of your personal practice that's fine.
Thank you you guys so much! That really helped. Where I read it did say to be extremely careful with it, but I still saw it as strange. But thank you for explaining this to me. I guess I'm just not the type to take to first hearing about things like that. As long as everyone who chooses to do so is careful with it and no one is truly hurt I think it's fine. Again, thank you.
