ba little more specific because as you wrote it you can even get answered that is enough to turn off the light during your ritual, but I suppose you're looking for a diffent advice.

Light and Dark are the two basics (or sides) of magic. It's all about balance here. Even the elements are divided into either Light (Fire, Water, Earth, Air, Spirit) or Dark(Lightning, Ice, Rock, Wind, Death). A great many spells are composed of those different elements and raw will. Some spells (mostly advanced) use both Light and Dark elements. Most spells affect the Astral world and then their physical counterpart. Like if you throw a fireball at a physical tree(or even your house) it can catch fire in the astral and die or be damaged and eventually that tree will die in the physical for seemingly no reason. That said, what specifics do you want to know?

well physically you could use a white candle and a black candle [though that's usually the Goddess and God] or perhaps split your altar down the middle with light items to one side, dark items to the other. [i refer to colour]

studying all aspects of magick is a good way to figure out how you can best incorporate these energies into your rituals. meditate on the good and the bad in the world. think past the surface of a spell [i cast a money spell, 5$ falls out of someones pocket, i find 5$] or study and cast both curses and protection. [so you can feel the difference in energy while casting and surrounding you]

There is not so much a duality between light and dark as there is a duality between bright light and dim light, which is part of the broader antagonistic duality between true vulgarity and true beauty, respectively.
