In being new to Magick might I suggest a few things:

First off even if you have a growing fascination with paths dealing with Fae, Dragons, Otherkin etc; put those curiosities on the back burner for now as they tend to get more involved with advanced ideals of philosophy and ceremonial (high) magick. Those paths can be rewarding however tend to be a bit more unforgiving to beginners.

Starting out I'd suggest what you yourself would see to be simple protection spells, specifically ones that are based on chants (just speaking words), light candles, making talismans, etc. Since face it you are dying to do a spell. Maybe even throw in some that boost existing qualities such as self-esteem, confidence, intelligence, peace, etc.

Next spend some time researching cultures, each culture has a path, practice or religion tied to it. I wouldn't push anyone in just one direction. Almost every faith on this planet has some sort of ritual practice attached to it including Christianity. You could look at it from a faith point of view such as which deity do you believe in, or go completely physical and decide what type of practice you have interest in such as dealing with candles, herbs, stones, or just visualization.

The sky is not the limit, starting out be patient. Because as you grow spiritually and through research you will change your mind and direction many, many times. Don't get discourage and ask questions. The only stupid question is the one you didn't ask.

When you find a path or practice that sounds like something you are interested in, read everything you can find on it. And look through our online covens on here to see if there is a coven that teaches that path. If there isn't, it is not the end of the world. Most covens on here have members from all practices and walks of life, chances are that you will find someone that can shed light on whatever you are learning.

I hope some of these helps, and wait patiently myself to see what type of practitioners you all become. Blessings..
