What do y'all think about vodou (voodoo) dolls? I have one but I don't want to feel like a fool if it doesn't work. Has it worked for y'all in the past? If so how did you make it work?
the correct term is poppets, or spirit dolls. since voodoo dolls is just a name to attract tourists. but yes they do work, and they can work exceptionally well if you know how to use them:
you need to have something( hair, nails, or even a name tag or signature) to attach to the doll. then you need a red cord, a chant( preferably one that rhymes) that states your need, and a doll the color that corresponds to the energy your working with.
attach the name tag and the connection to your doll. and slowly wrap the cord around the doll tighter and tighter while you say your chant.
when its as tight as it can be, stick a pin into the area of the doll where the heart would be. and your spell is done.
^^ thats just one way to do it. there are countless other way to use these dolls, but this is one of the best ways that i know how too.
You have to put your intent into it and be able to visualize, and believe what you're visualizing will make that paradigm shift. And if your new, you work on the poppet more than once. You may also want to call your deities while working with a poppet. You also may want to take into consideration what works best for you, and that is by trial and error. I've always had this concept that what one says, in spiritual matters, is spirit-power at its raw pinnacle.
To me, making or dealing with a poppet it all has to do with the meanings of the ingredients behind it, because magick, to me, has a universal language. I think poppets are a great medium for work. You really think about it, it is making what you want to manifest on the micro-scale. One representation of a person is simply thinking about a person, and by that person you ponder they are there in your mind as you will.
I was part of an 'experiment' and helped make one once. It required a lot of concentration and was a bit hard to make properly, but in the end it did work but just not to the point where if you stabbed in the heart then the person would die, they just felt a sharp pain.
Personal Side Note: It was nerve wrecking as hell!
