You don't and can't control any element, you basically work with them. You can try studying an element at a time by meditating on and understanding the qualities of the element you choose to work with. There are a good amount of articles on here as well as videos on YouTube that give examples on how to connect with some elements and how to incorporate them in your workings. I've seen good reviews on Scott Cunningham's books Earth Power and Earth, Air, Fire and Water on the elements; I haven't read them but I'm sure there are more books you can look into on the elements that will be great to study too.

First off, this post was long ago! Secondly, again you're made up of ALL elements.

In order to find out how to balance all elements, this may sound corny but...take a walk. Sit down, and breath, feel the ground beneath you, the sun shining on you, hear the voices, feel the wind. Smell, and feel the chill, or dampness. Try to spend a week with each one.

First Week: Take a morning walk on the weekend, plant a flower. I slept outside for this one, on a night.

Week Two: Go out and swing, or jump in the air. Feel the wind. Meditate, and feel your breath. Listen.

Week three: Light a candle

I think you get it!

I am a Capricorn, and thought my Element was Earth, but I am still learning. Maybe it isn't?

You cannot "control" any of the Elements. The Elements are way too powerful to be controlled. However one can learn to work with the energies of the Elements.

The best way is to start with the Element with which you feel most comfortable and begin with meditation and energy work to tap into the Elemental energies. These can then be used to help fuel your magical workings. As you get comfortable with one Element then move on to another until you can work with all of the Elements equally well.

Hi Vicki, no, your Element isn't Earth. Earth is associated with your birth sign. But a full astrological chart based on your birth information will show that you have planets in a variety of the astrological Houses, and many of those may not be related to the Element of Earth at all.

As an example, I am a Taurus by birth which is an Earth sign. My Sun and Moon are also in Taurus. But I also have a number of my planets in Houses associated with Fire and a few with Air and Water. So it is far too simplistic to just say "I'm Earth" just because of the sign of the Zodiac under which I was born.

Discard that idea that you are one Element. It isn't true, and it will limit what you can do in the future.

I agree with you mostly in this article. I agree that your zodiac sign does not dictate what element you are nor does it mean that you can "control" a certain element.

I do believe, however, that each person is born with a unique sensitivity to a certain element. This may manifest itself in many ways. Some may feel connected to an element. Such as those who enjoy watching fire or those who find it calming to run their hand through water. The more common type of element that I have run across is your personality element.

When I read a persons palm I tell that person their element. Each of the elements correspond to a certain personality type. I find it useful for the person to understand the reading better this way.

I agree that we are all made up of all the elements, but like in anything we may have an aptitude towards a certain element. If you want to talk more about elements please contact me because this is a topic I am fond of.

Best wishes.
