I've been reading "The Black Arts" which, despite the title, is a very informative book about BALANCE, not darkness alone. my point being that part of it was an entire section on alchemy and the philosopher's stone. the book suggests that an equal mixture of mercury/quiksilver, sulfur and salt (representing pure forms of mind, body and soul) would make the legendary philosopher's stone. though good luck getting your hands on quiksilver these days lol.

Actually those terms are partially symbolic. Alchemists wanted to ensure that only those who had studied the art would understand their writings, so nearly every word is at least partially metaphorical. The true meaning of that passage is explained in the Book of Aquarius.
