I believe everybody's opinion should be respected here as this thread discusses the definition of a term which here we found out to be controversial and debatable.

My thoughts are similar to those of FolishaCole. According to my definition Wisdom engages in the way we use our knowledge. Its epitome is distinction. Differentiation of right from wrong. Beneficial from injurious . Preparedness from deception.

Also, ESK, I couldn't notice this more than that so I have to ask: How exactly do you agree with Shawn if you say wisdom comes with experience and he said this, and I quote: "...nor is it aquired through time and experience." ? To me it sounds more like a contradiction.

A a bit an explination as to what I meant by that, just so we're on the same page, I know older people that have less wisdom than a pile of horse manure, and I know young people that are wise beyond their years. Age is not the direct cause of wisdom. Neither is learned behavior. They can absolutely influence wisdom, but that influence can be rejected by the individual just as easily as it can be accepted.

Of course, this is all just my viewpoint, and I reserve the right to be wrong or change it at any time. :)

LVX,

Shawn.

Ha ha!! There are also some people that are just inherently stupid for whom no amount of experience will change.

I never said that wisdom is gained through life and experience, that was someone else. I said wisdom comes through the choice of being attentitive. In other words, paying attention and learning from your surroundings.

Perhaps it is a good time to cover the symbolism of the tarot card The Hermit. IX.

The Hermit stands alone wearing a grey cloak with a lantern in one hand and a staff in the other. He has retired to a lonely mountain top to listen to the voice of his higher self, and understand the divine wisdom of the unconscious. His lamp contains the six pointed seal of Solomon, symbolizing spiritual light, knowledge, lighting his way. The staff in his left hand symbolises power and attainment, and the unconscious mind.

The snow at his feet represents the heights of spiritual attainment. He wears the grey cloak of invisibility. His secrets are not for everyone, only for those earnestly seeking them and those willing to climb the mountainous heights to wisdom.

Brightest blessings
