Well, you should be healthy physically, psychologically and spiritually. A strong aura is very helpful, and there are meditations and exercises that you can do to strengthen it. Clear focus and intention are essential. As far as actual techniques, the LBRP, Opening by Watchtower, casting a circle or whatever ritual you use is only going to be as effective as your internal strength, energy and focus. If you are strong there, any technique will work.

Shawn.

This is so interesting. Thanks for sharing. I really like what Shawn said about making sure that we are very strong physically, psychologically and spiritually since it all starts with us individually.

Although I follow mainly a Buddhist path, my mother and some very good friends work a lot with new age healing, energy and magic methods and I have seen the incredible benefit that arises out of that too. Recently, my own teacher (Tsem Rinpoche) met with a this very well known energy healer, Anne Jones, and spoke a lot about methods of protection, mainly as he was also concerned that effective methods are used to stop the intrusion of negative energies. So I thought perhaps I could share with you what he advised Ms. Jones, which are also the practices that we do within our Buddhist center as a powerful form of protection.

In the Tibetan Buddhist traditions, there are these beings called Dharma Protectors, who are karmically and "physically" very close to us on earth and who come to our aid very quickly. They manifest in a function specifically to protect us from veering off the spiritual path, stopping negative interferences or disturbances and providing the things that we need for a successful and safe practice. One such being is the enlightened protector Setrap who manifests with a fierce demeanour as a symbol that he "frightens" away the negative things that afflict us. Actually, this kind of enlightened wrath arises entirely out of compassion, like a mother scolding her errant child because she cares of his welfare and wellbeing.

The rituals, prayers and offerings to Dharma Protectors, such as Setrap, as in the traditional way practiced by Buddhists and in the monasteries, can be very complex, but Rinpoche very kindly compiled a new prayer, based on these traditional sources which evokes the same energies. Here is a beautiful prayer you can recite daily (even if you aren't doing any specific magic or energy work, you can still recite this daily to create a very powerful connection with Setrap that will keep you safe always and at the same time, create conditions for the things that you need to arise swiftly).

Here you go, with many good wishes for a safe, protected and successful practice always!

I see you too are also a Dorje Shugden practitioner lhamo. I myself also am one and it's the first time I met someone who knew about Tsem Rinpoche here as well. For protection, I like to use the forms of Dorje Shugden along with his ministers by reciting their mantras and prayers to them. I pray to Dorje Shugden, Tsiu Marpo(also known as Kache Marpo), Methar, and Trakze. I also use other dharmapalas as well. For insistence, I worship the wrathful form of my patron goddesss Saraswati, who's wrathful form is Palden Lhamo and her assistant, Magzor Gyalmo. I worship the most wrathful form of Dorje Shugden/Manjushri, Yamantaka. Though, Yamantaka practice is very dangerous so it's not recommended. Kalarupa(also known as Yama Dharmaraja, but is not the god Yama), 4 faced/armed Mahakala, and Vaishravana. As you probably have noticed, I use most of the forms of Manjushri as my protectors.

Of course, I would like to thank Tsem Rinpoche for teaching me those many mantras and deities. Otherwise, I wouldn't have had much knowledge and only know a small portion of Buddhism.
