I've been doing Tarot readings for some time now and, while I don't claim to be good I am normally very accurate and proficient with my readings. But I recently performed a self reading whose meaning eludes me. My preference on reading layouts is the celtic cross. And based on my initial observation of the cards as a whole in the layout I believe my deck is trying to convey an important message to me, yet try as I may I cannot seem to make heads or tails out of it. Can someone please help?

I know exactly what you mean and that also happened to me some time ago. What I recommend you is to write down the cards you got, listen to your intuition and lastly forget the meaning of the cards. Just look at their expession, what symbols pop out and lastly write down your thoughts/feelings etc.
Have you considered having some else you trust do a reading for you to see if the message becomes more clear? You may be blocking it without meaning to because the message is something you are not ready to face for whatever reasons.
As Nicole mentioned, having someone else read. I have a dear friend of mine who cannot read her cards for herself- she pulls and Ill read. If you have written the placements and the cards pulled, why not allow one of us to read them for you? Start a new thread- as when reading for ourselves, it can be hard to go with our intuition as we lose our objectivity
