Trying hard to meditate is often the very reason why people can't unfortunately. There are a few different guides to meditation out there and all of them very different as it depends on what works for you.
What you probably need is a way to help you relax and stop trying so hard rather than a guide to walk you through the process. It can be tough at first but just try for a little while and see what happens. What helps me when I'm struggling is to just try closing my eyes and looking at the darkness, trying to pick out little shapes or lights in it at all. All that's really trying to do is distract your mind a little and allow you to drift down into a trance. Don't worry if your thoughts start wondering a little that's perfectly ok, in fact it's probably slightly better than trying to remain focused on meditation.
As I said the process is whatever works for you so don't be too afraid to play around with whatever feels comfortable and see what happens. Ultimately though just try to stop worrying about it and let it happen on its own after all you don't actively think about breathing yet that happens all on its own. Good luck with it all.
