Need help

My fish just got sick... in an hour. The last time I checked on him he was fine, but now all of a sudden, he is swollen and sick with something that is either a minor illness,or a disease that doesn't really have a cure yet (dropsy).

I wanted to do a health spell for him and see if it can help him heal up.

If you know any spells for health or anything in that nature, please mail me or reply.

And what it's habitat/environment is like? I've got experience in veterinary work and could give you some pointers, and sources for help. The swelling is not good at all, as I'm sure you know. I recommend you immediately call a local vet to inquire about this and seek immediate treatment if it is dropsy.

He's a male betta, I don't know his age but he isn't very old by just looking at his physical characteristics. He lives in a small aquarium with a filter and a heater. The thermometer is always in the right range of temp.... I clean his water about 35% most the time and always make sure there isn;t any rottne food hanging around on the bottom.

I cleaned his tank tonight and did a full water change because there was very nasty crud at the bottom of the tank that I hadn't seen (when you moved a rock all this brown would come up). I always put water stabilizer in and let it heat up for him.

:/ I put him back in and within a few hours one side of his belly was bloated and he was floating at the top. I thought he was dead but he started swimming around. I tried feeding him some pea but it would sink to the bottom and his belly was holding him from swimming down to get it.

Side thing which i am going to google: His eyes are normally black with a pale spot in the middle/little grey around. The eye on the side of his lelly that is bloated looks completely dark black.

That sounds very similar to swim bladder disorder. This can actually happen for a multitude of reasons, the most common simply being that the fish is eating too much too fast or has gulped down too much air. It's actually common in your type of fish. My recommendation is that you still call the vet. In the meantime, lower the amount of food you are giving (or don't give for a day or so). Increase the temperature, only slightly. And lower the water level if it is having buoyancy issues. If the swelling doesn't decrease after a day or so without feed, you should really get it checked out. Best of luck to your fish!

I had a feeling it was swim bladder (my previous fish got it as well at some point). Very happy that it isn't dropsy.. really, really happy. I'll call the fish poeple in the morning.

Personified, just wondering, do you search this stuff up when you see a question or do you just know it? It seems like you can answer any problem. Anyway my fish got the same thing a few days ago, but it got better, mine was a betta female.

Like I said, regarding this issue I've had lots of experience with veterinary work. I'm a vet tech currently, and applying to vet school next fall. I really enjoy working with small pet animals.
