That's all right. The main premise for meditation is to sit and try to clear your mind. When random thoughts pop up, imagine them as clouds that you can just blow away. It's ok for distractions to be there, as long as they can be pushed away.
Or, you can try meditating on an object, to begin with, to practice meditation. Pick an object you are familiar with, a small object, and as you breathe, imagine yourself getting tinier, and fitting into the contoursof the object. When you've fit into the object, take a breathe and reverse the process. If you can manage that, it's successful, and the more you practice, the easier it will be for you to maintain concentration, I think.
