I like this Idea! I know people that like to learn with people, and some who like to learn individually. I am one to learn with someone; and if this were to happen I would defiantly partake!

If you don't learn the basics how can your magick work. There are people here willing to teach those who have the discipline to learn. And that's a statement based on truth not an assumption.

Teachers don't give you the answers or tell you what to believe. They help you to find your own beliefs. They make you research, work and grow. They guide you, not direct you. They will, of course, make sure that you learn the foundations, the basics that you will need to make the journey on your own. Perhaps mentor would be better than teacher.

I have seif studied several years now. But prior to that I went through initiations. I had teachers. There is more than what you can learn in a forum. And there is a severe lack of foundations in this group. Would you seek out a doctor that never went to medical school and was self taught? How about an electrician who never apprenticed to a master electrician? Or maybe a pilot who never went to flight school? "As above, so below" applies to everything, as does the other part of that statement "As below, so above". Why would you think your magical training would be any different from your mundane education?

No one is going to force you to have a teacher if you don't want to. If you read the original post, that is not what was asked. "Is there people here that really want to learn?" Why should all the people that ask for teachers have to go to somewhere else to find them?

LVX,

Shawn.

If you desire to teach others, find a coven (a good one you have to be approved for). If you desire to learn from others, find a coven that teaches the topics you are interested in.

Taking on people to teach takes a lot of time, time many of us do not have. You also have a lot of people who ask questions they can google. I was once asked "how do I meditate". I googled it and gave a link, just as easily as they could have done themselves. I won't sit and hand write all that info like they expect me too.

I do have a few "students" I advise and guide *gasp* I know, its shocking. =P
But I have chosen very carefully. They know their "basics", have a firm grasp of reality, common sense, and a willingness to debate me if they don't agree with me. I want them to use their own minds and not just nod their heads. A magick practioner will never excell if they accept all info without being critical. I've had people ask me to guide them, and when I go into all of that, many run!

would be neat, but in terms of improvements to the site, it's probably down on the list [if on there at all] and i'm sure a lot of people on this site [myself included] don't have the time really. besides, there's a lot more important things this site needs [like the spells section needs to be cleaned up big time] the forums are here for people to turn when they need help. those who are knowledgeable will help them here. to teach a 2 hour class takes about 16 hours of research and preparation. most people on this site have busy lives, and i don't even thing Pet get's paid on this site.

there are articles, covens, even links to other sites that are on here to help you seek out and find the information. seeking wisdom yourself is part of being a witch, you can never stop learning. it is good to have someone teach you, but it's better to look yourself, and when you're stuck, ask for some help, than get the answers. you know, give a man a fish, eat for a day, teach a man to fish, eat forever.

that's kind of what this site is. it's not a school, it doesn't have teachers or designated people to take you from point A to point B. it has people who come here seeking help, receive it, and hopefully stick around to help the next person with a similar problem so in that way, the few people who are mod's or admin who have more knowledge than other users, won't get fed up and run away screaming.

Interesting how after examination of the sites articles section I cant even find a basic instruction set on how to cast a circle. What items should be used on an alter. Why spells should be cast in certain moon cycles. The different energy centers of the body. Anything definite about astral projection or trance work and many other things. I will help and teach anyone who wants to learn.

I will agree there isn't much for articles.
Maybe "push" wasn't the best word to use. My point was, that everyone has opinions and beliefs, and it would be hard for a teacher of magic, to keep them completely out of the teachings. What teacher would want their former students out there doing and saying things they disagreed with? And after reading more comments I realize that's probably not so bad. A student wouldn't want to learn from a teacher they disagreed with anyway.
It's also true that everyone has a preference, and a learning style.
Not sure that any of this matters though since it doesn't seem like it's in the plans for SoM anyway. But still an interesting discussion.

funny Dillion, after ten seconds i found plenty of articles on circle casting, alter items, moon phases and meanings, energy work through meditation, chakra, and healings, along with many other articles i found interesting that i haven't come across until now. if you want circle casting, here you go:

casting a circle, just click on the articles tab http://www.spellsofmagic.com/coven_ritual.html?ritual=1826&coven=246

if you want a different one, after clicking on the articles tab, there should be three sub tabs, the second one is 'coven articles'
~Spellcasters: http://www.spellsofmagic.com/coven_ritual.html?ritual=2254&coven=6
~Christian Wiccans: http://www.spellsofmagic.com/coven_ritual.html?ritual=1891&coven=147
~Council of Earna: http://www.spellsofmagic.com/coven_ritual.html?ritual=1300&coven=492
http://www.spellsofmagic.com/coven_ritual.html?ritual=1300&coven=492
~Legion of Light and Dark: http://www.spellsofmagic.com/coven_ritual.html?ritual=540&coven=493
~Black Cross: http://www.spellsofmagic.com/coven_ritual.html?ritual=1264&coven=595
~Divine Spirits: http://www.spellsofmagic.com/coven_ritual.html?ritual=201&coven=108 [they even have one for closing the circle] http://www.spellsofmagic.com/coven_ritual.html?ritual=203&coven=108
~Dark Moon's Light: http://www.spellsofmagic.com/coven_ritual.html?ritual=907&coven=532 http://www.spellsofmagic.com/coven_ritual.html?ritual=966&coven=532
~The Adversary: http://www.spellsofmagic.com/coven_ritual.html?ritual=646&coven=541
~Darkness Rising: http://www.spellsofmagic.com/coven_ritual.html?ritual=1434&coven=584
~The Agate Athame: http://www.spellsofmagic.com/coven_ritual.html?ritual=1057&coven=603
~Random Magic: http://www.spellsofmagic.com/coven_ritual.html?ritual=1080&coven=618
~Healers of Light: http://www.spellsofmagic.com/coven_ritual.html?ritual=1415&coven=707

there's plenty of articles about the basics, and even about other forms of witchcraft, you just need to look for them. granted they may not all be perfect, and perhaps you study Egyptian, but there's none that calls for Ra. you look at the common themes and alter it for your needs. magic is personal, so you should shape it to work for you. if there is a specific question, ask, but do some research first.
