HELP Overwhelming empathy
By:
Can anyone help me? Im an empath and it has lately been getting quite overwhelming. I live on a farm and we recentally had to "put a chicken out of it's misery" (it was hurt) while I had no part in this, I did pick up some feelings from the chicken. My heart started to race and I felt scared and almost threw up.
Normally I'm not around hen this type if thing happens, but it was just a wrong-place-wrong-time event that has mentally and emotionally scarred me.

Now, I know that empathy can't be turned off, but I was wondering if anybody had any tips on how to deal with it or dull it a bit.
Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

For me I can't go to my schools cafeteria or go to assemblies but I still have to. I can't leave the assemblies so I talk to Shadow (my ghost friend/spirit guide) she always calms me down when my anxiety strikes. (overwhelming empathy is a cause of my anxiety/big crowds) Maybe try contacting your spirit guide/animal.

You could try psychic shielding here http://empathicperspectives.wordpress.com/2010/06/10/empaths-psychic-defense-shielding-more/ i hope this helps,if not feel free to message me and i'll give you another link i think if you want it to keep other's emotions apart from your own,all you have to do is think about that when you make the shield.

First I empty my mind and still it. That usually shuts it out but its taken practice and meditation to devolop the mental discipline to do that. Imagine your mind turning into a steel or brick wall blocking all out. That's where I first started.

When I'm going to be around the dying or death, I carry both hematite and black tourmaline in my left pocket. Carrying them around everyday and sleeping with them under my pillow, as well as working with their energy for a few months straight actually made my energy more resilent toward all negative emotional pickup, to the point where I rarely need any aids (including no stones) unless I have a personally attachment to the person or animal in distress, and even then I can control it.

I started this when I was working in a position where I had to deal with the public. After speaking with a family with an adult with a birth defect/disease where he were bound to a wheelchair and was slamming his face and hands into the table attached to it, yelling, drooling and crying (with the family seemly unfazed so this must have been "normal") I had to run to the bathroom feeling overwhelmed with nausea to the point of dry heaving. I had inadvertantly connected to this individual. I knew I couldn't be doing that, nor could I explain my sudden paleness and illness! So I devised what I described above and it worked like a charm.

wow, Youngcoyote, I didn't realize that that could be the cause of my anxiety, i just thought that it happened to me just because. I'm finding a lot of empaths on here and it's very comforting to know that i'm not alone :) and Shshgr, it happens to me too, I've just learned to feel sorry for the animals and try to stay away. Next time they have to put an animal down, I suggest going for a walk. That way you don't have to be around it and you can clear your mind and feel the alive things around you. It helps, you can mail me if you need anything else, and that goes for everybody :)
