Colors of the wind.

My childhood has revealed it's secret. That song "colors of the wind" from pocahontas .You never really realize how pagan that song really is. Now it's like my lifes theme song. I love it so much. I love how it goes "but I know every rock and tree and creature. as a life, has a spirit, has a name." Truly an anthem to animism. Your thoughts?

sorry if i come across cynical, but the song was written as a way to show how in tune with nature the natives were, and how savage the white man really was. it was suppose to sound that way.

yea, it has far more meaning once you're older. i remember as a kid thinking how cool it was and how natives were so in tune, and could befriend wild animals and speak with the trees. [i was 4 or 5 at the time] but i now know anyone can be if you just take the time.

what i would like to call into argument is the "but I know every rock and tree and creature. as a life, has a spirit, has a name."
from what i know, rocks don't have life or spirit. they're useful, and they have magical and spiritual qualities, but from my knowledge, not a spirit. i know, i know, it's a kids song, it's suppose to sound nice. some of the lyrics mind you are a bit off, just to sound mystical. but it's still nice, and if you find some deep meaning in it to inspire you, no one can tell you otherwise. blessed be.

Nekoshema, although you do not, some believe rocks do have a spirit. To quote:

''Animism encompasses the beliefs that there is no separation between the spiritual and physical (or material) world, and souls or spirits exist, not only in humans, but also in all other animals, plants, rocks, geographic features such as mountains or rivers, or other entities of the natural environment.''

My thoughts exactly. It may not have a soul like you or I think of, which has karma and feelings and which may go to a heaven or hell, but to say that there is no spirit to a rock is to suggest that it is somehow not of the same divine source as all else.

I don't believe rocks have spirits, like you're reborn as a rock, but have spiritual qualities, yes. there's crystal healing, but i've come across quite a few spells where the key ingredient is a certain type of rock. i just know rocks aren't alive, so therefore they don't have a spirit that can be reborn. sorry if i upset anyone, i just believe that.

Oh I don't imagine you've upset anyone, and we're not trying to force this belief on you or anything, it's just a sort of uncommon concept that we're trying to explain.

"i just know rocks aren't alive, so therefore they don't have a spirit that can be reborn."

That something lacks what we think of as life does not preclude the possibility that it may have a soul to be reborn. Let's work with the theory that things are reborn based on what lessons a soul needs to learn just because that makes discussion easier.

You and I would naturally assume that a soul would experience/learn things through consciousness since that's how you and I learn things, plus objects which lack consciousness typically do not learn. All of that applies to the physical though. It's possible that a soul may learn simply from being in a certain state in certain situations, not because its incarnation has a mind, consciousness, or the ability to learn. Plus, rocks do decidedly come into and exit out of existence as rocks. They can be molten, worn down into sand, and compressed back together again. This could easily be the birth and death (that is, the beginning of incarnation and the end of incarnation) of a rock.

interesting theory. less confusing, but still can't fully wrap my mind around such a thing lol. if someone believes that i don't mind, it's just odd to think someone could be reborn as a rock for sometime.
