Oops. Spell check didn't catch that. It is the Bornless Ritual. It's the invocation of the higher soul, that is "not born", hence the name Bornless One. Personally, I would have gone with the Unborn Ritual, or the Supernal Ritual, but what is in a name anyway. There are several versions of it. I personally perfer Regardie's version that is in the G.D. book.

Abramelin is a difficult program to go through. I don't know of many accomplished magicians who have gone all the way through it. Of course, for the last 6 months you are sequestered in your home, with no outside contact. Very hard to do these days.

When I went through Portal grade, which is between the outer order of the G.D. and the inner order of the R.R. et A.C., I was given the Bornless ritual to practice as a method of preleminary contact with the HGA. But, afterwards I was expected to compose my own ritual to serve that purpose.

You are correct that the G.D. taught "by the book". Remember that the G.D. was not a magical order. It taught no practical work. It was only concerned with teaching the basics, balancing the elemental energies in the student, and achieving conversation with the HGA. In that sence, the entire Outer Order curriculum could be looked at as elementry school. Then, when you get into the R.R. et A.C., you started off learning more basics of practical work, which could be considered high school, and then went on to studying the actual practical works. By this time, you had probably been a member for at least five years.

Not trying to contradict anything you said. Just part of my experience with the G.D.

Shawn.

No no good sir Im soaking this up. So those are the different orders in the GD? Or just different societies all togehter? I understand they didnt do "practical magick" but I want to descover my HGA once that is achieved I hear all other magick is just to further you along your true path there will be no ego or other flawed characteristics in your magick. I hear the levels are 3 in the dawn maybe thats what Im misunderstanding. The first level is like yoga meditation and astral projection then on the next level I believe it was Alchmey Divination or something right?

In the G.D., you were taught all of the basics. these would include the rudiments of astrology, tarot, qabalah, numberology, sacred geometry, geomancy, alchemy, qabalistic correspondences, elements and the basic rituals. The basic rituals included the LBRP, The Ritual of the Hexagram, the Greater Ritual of the Pentagram, the Supreme Ritual of the Pentagram, the Rose Cross Ritual, and finally, at Portal, the Opening by Watchtowers. At each of the elemental grades in the G.D. you were given meditations on the elements and meditations of the four Archangels. These are sometimes called rituals or invocations, but you are not the same as what you would do in, say, Abramelin or the GKOS. There are pathworking meditations on the Tree of Life. You would do no practical work with anything else, including divination, alchemy, advanced ritual work or creation of the elemental weapons. At Portal grade, you are expected to make contact with the HGA.

In the second or, the R.R. et A.C., you learn the practical work. You create the elemental weapons and advanced tools, study divination, create talismans, traveling in spirit vision, which is astral projection, invocation and evocation, psychic development and many other things.

Supposedly, the third order is attained when you have moved or advanced beyond the physical plane. That being said, there are people claiming to have achieved those grades. I will refrain from giving my opinions of those people, or whether or not they have actually achieved said rank.

Shawn.
