how do you find a teacher? i think i need one. everyone who is new at magic needs a teacher, right?

Not as such no, although I would recommend having someone else with experience to at least discuss things with. Personally I'm largely self taught although I sought out others to practice with when I was stuck. I would recommend joining a coven that is tailored towards teaching beginners, read there bios for details. It's a good idea to keep an eye out for a moderately experienced priest/ess and a similar council, a good way I find is to look at what they've posted in the general forums as it gives you a feel for how much they know and how legitimate they are. Some people do offer to teach others on a more one to one basis but not that many as it can be quite a time consuming process and it's often much better for teacher and student to teach a group in the covens.
