When I think 8 point star, I immediately think Ishtar, Astarte, Ianna, Venus, etc. This is one of the symbols representing that figure http://sherridhyan.com/symbols%20pictures/Symbol18.gif
But when I look at your symbol, I see a compass. 8 points (north, north east, east, south east, south, south west, west, and north west). North and south are the most prominent points on a compass because they create the axis that our planet spins on, if you keep going north, reach the north pole and continue in the same direction, you'll suddenly be going south. But when you go west, you'll go west forever, and the same with east.
There are many many variations of the magickal compass, one that I work with is the runic compasses. Look at the first two symbols on this page.

This is off the top of my head, but I'll take a look through my notes and resources for you and let you know if I find any other matches.
This symbol makes me think of the all seeing eye, which in turn reminds me of crowleys the tower tarot card, however at the same time it reminds me of a sort of triple goddes sign in front of a sun, but in my opinion the only one who can find out what this symbol means or what it actually is, is you, if you ever do find out please tell us.
when i saw your picture, kinda reminds me of the algol star (as what whiterav3n have said)..
ALGOL From the Arabic Al Ghul, meaning Demon Star. Algol is symbolized as the Chaos Star with an averse pentagram in it, representing the individual star or consciousness through Black Magick awakening. Algol itself is the image of Set in the
aspect of the Prince of Darkness, being the manifestation of the Black Sun or opposite force of creation. Through Algol one may project any magical force necessary based on ones experience.
-from the bible of the adversary by Michael Ford..
-->>this is what i can share for you right now.. i will also look further about this algol star (because i do know i have meanings of each point of it) but suddenly, i can't find it.. lol..
when i look at the symbol i have a vision of a one winged beast full of rage with this symbol on its forehead, bound in chains connected to a lone swordsman / warrior... not sure what that might mean?
