I think a lot of people are just not aware of the differance. They look at a star and see a star, but don't stop to count the points or notice any extra details. I think there are just as many people who see a Star of David and think it is a pentagram, as there are folks who see a pentagram and think it is a Star of David. They don't know either culture (Jewish or Wiccan) well enough to know that the two stars are different, so they just see a star and think, Jewish or Wiccan based on which one they know about. I would not think they were trying to be rude about it, they may be just wanting to start a conversation and thought they'd impress you by letting you know they knew what the star meant, not realizing they had mistaken it for a different star.

it's not Jewish. personally i've never had anyone ask me that. one time at a party this guy noticed the pentagram tattooed on my friends back and went 'Satan, rock on' well after a few my friend and i were a little louder than normal and she snapped at him explaining we are Wiccan and that there is no devil in the craft. the guy asked what the difference was cuz it's all the same. my friend said 'it is not. the biggest difference is we don't believe in Satan.' his response was 'well Satan doesn't believe in you.' and walked away. lol, always love that story. my point is people will see something and assume, sometimes it's harmless, but just calmly explain what it is.
