What we actually sense within the astral is more a translation of what we experience than an actual sense. There is nothing physical there to actually feel or taste. There is nothing there causing actual sound waves for us to hear, or rays of light for us to see. As was suggested, this becomes a very personal experience, as our minds work to translate what we experience spiritually into something we can make sense of as very physical beings.
While it was also suggested that opening your third eye to "100%" would aid with this, I would suggest here that the opening of your third eye is more the result of your experiences and studies than an actual practice. This is often misunderstood about the third eye, or any of the chakras. They are merely conduits for the energy, reacting to our actions as well as the actions of those around us.
They may change as you work with them, much as you might build muscle when you work out--muscle is the product of working out, and not the actual process.
