9 Knot Spell?
By:
There was a book that I used to have many years ago that was called a 'grimoire' but it was actually more of a beginners guide to 'magick' and it read like a school text book. I don't remember the name, only that it is a big green book. Overall it was actually rather silly and useless, but it did have a ridiculously good knot spell that worked for me many times. It was the first spell I ever preformed and was very effective. The book was lost over the years and I cannot for the life of me find it anywhere online. If anyone knows which book I am referring to and could give me the name/author I would really appreciate it. OR, even better if you actually own it and could send me a copy of the '9 Knot Spell', that would make my whole month! :)

Thanks,
Lux

I don't know exactly what this grimore was, but there are many uses of knots in magick, and 9 knots in particular is called a "witches ladder". If you google "witches ladder" you may find what you're looking for or a variation of it.

Most witches ladders have objects woven into them, however, knot magick in general is simple and fun to do and can be found in most cultures. 9 is most commonly the number of knots used, but each number of knots has significance. I personally wrote my own healing spell using knots. Once you get the principle of it, it is easy to utilize for practically anything.

I think WhiteRav3n's thought that the 'Nine Knot Spell' might be a witches' ladder may be true.

Usually, as also said by Rav3n, a witches' ladder is composed of knotted rope (in more traditional times even mixed with hair, especially in cursing), with charms, beads, feathers or any other suitable object relevant to the purpose of the ladder.

In older times, it was said that witches used to tie knots in a witches ladder, and then hide them to cast a spell of malicious intent, usually death, on another. The only way to 'reverse' this was to find the ladder and then undo the knots.

Nowadays, the witches' ladder is usually used for binding, wishes, protection, or healing. I often carry one on me when flying abroad on a plane, boat, etc as it is said to encourage safe travel.

Although ladders are often created for as part of a particular spell, in other cases, the knots or beads are used to attain track of repetition in a spell or incantation, somewhat alike to Rosary beads.

Thank you both so much for the helpful advice, but I have come up with my own knot spell over the years. I rarely use spells that are not written by myself these days. I should have been more clear in the reason for needing the spell. It is more for sentimental purposes. That version was the first spell I ever preformed and it would mean a lot to have a copy of it. I would like to have a copy to keep on my altar to remind me of my roots and how far I have come since my journey began.

i've heard of such a spell. i've heard many variations, from what i can tell you take a piece of rope and channel your intent into it, maybe say a chant with each knot you tie, and as Pseudonyma said, you reverse it by untieing the knots. the only one i heard of that's opposite is an old sailors tale about going to a witch to buy a rope with 9 knots in it. when the breeze failed them, they would untie one knot, and the wind would favour them. however, each knot they untied, the wind got stronger, if they untied all 9 knots there would be a terrible storm that would destroy the ship. don't know if that's true or knot [hee-hee] it's just what i was told as a child. did see it repeated in a Buckland book [almost certain it was a Buckland book] so maybe there's some truth to it.

That is actually very true, you can trap certain weather conditions in knots and release them when they are untied. As far as I know, this has only been done with wind, but you never know, it could have been done with other types of weather and just never been documented. The idea is to wait until it is a windy day and do the 9 knot spell as you normally would, but instead of just tying the knots as you say the spell, you would wait for a gust of wind and then tie the knot as you say the appropriate verse for the knot, that way the gust is trapped in the knot. And as you said, untying many knots at once would result in more intense winds. It was recommended that the sailors not untie more than 3 at once to avoid any danger. 3 is for a 'gale'.
