So this is German magic? Volva is a wise woman. Thul is a wise man. The women is independent. She was a sacrifice. She wears catskin (paxon). They used a staff. The two main guys of seidr were killed because of hate of seidr. Freyja taught seidr. She used gold & amber jewelry. There are different ways to spell this magic. Seidr is divination, soul travel, shape shifting, necromancy, and cursing. It is different from other magic in that it is more centered around spiritual things. The first pillar of seidr is altered states and trances. The second pillar of seidr is soul travel. There is also spirit possession in the magic seidr. Third pillar is rhythm.

It's Norse/Germanic magick.

To clarify, the volva was not a sacrifice though they did work as a vessel and offer themselves up for spirits to work through. Usually there is something they are getting in return for this.

The two men I mentioned were not the "main" men who did seidhr. It's just an example of how certain men were viewed/treated. Seidhr was thought to be very feminine. Sometimes it involved dressing in the clothes I specified. There are other reasons but some sre too mature for public forums. And so men were thought to be "shameful" for practicing this.

There's a lot more to what work can be done with seidhr. I couldn't write it all out because it would take pages and pages. I'll work on breaking it into sections and posting them for those who are interested.

Note: keep in mind that as I share this, I am still learning. I've only spent a few years working with this, and it takes a long time to find literature and understand it concerning seidhr. I'm still learning new ways to practice seidhr! It's just that extensive.

I really liked this, you rarely see the pillars described in a good, straight forward manner.
You're a very talented and knowledgeable practitioner Personified. :)

Thanks, Amity. :) I think I might post a broader explanation of pathwalking/spirit-journeying sometime this week.

I seriously love this post, I've been hunting down forever more information about the Seidhr practice itself but was only coming up with articles that seidhr was a thing. I noticed you said something along the lines of "Refer to the articles I have posted about the various paths for different aspects of altered states to get a brief introduction to each one." Which articles would that be? I went to look- and saw many other articles I will be reading now XD- but I didn't see anything labeled Altered States

Since the thread you are responding to is 10 years old, it is unlikely that you will get a response. You might want to start a new thread in the Norse Pagan Forum to see what you can find out.
