If you know had to do flintknapping, you can totally make an Athame out of wood. (I think, you can do flintknapping on wood, right? I can't remember)That actually gave me an idea too... I had recently had to do a research paper for a class on weapons on the Stone Age and what I learned on how they made their tools seems pretty easy to do.

I think as long as you have a thick piece of wood and have a really good sharp knife (I prefer Buck, but most people prefer Gerber) than it would be easy to sharpen and smooth out the Athame.

Flint knapping is something done to stone, such as flint, however this can be applied to some wood, very old wood, once it has become petrified (think kind of like fossilized but different) if you want to make a wooden athame, I would encourege you to research some native american knives. The old ones would make knives out of some harder woods. now you have to ask yourself why you want a wood one, it might be easier to just make a wand, which I have seen many use in lieu of an athame. Funny enough I am currently making one out of a nice piece of spalted oak, I'm just carving right now. . . Perhaps I will make a tutorial.
