For bruises, I have found nothing better than castor oil. I mix it with organic, unrefined sesame oil to get a better consistency, I've also used sunflower oil when I didn't have sesame on hand. This also works for very minor cuts/scrapes that don't bleed (just look red).
For cuts, I use a cool black tea compress then dress it with raw honey. For minor burns I do the same.
For infants and small children, I suggest a strong chamomile infusion, no less than 6hrs. It lasts about 1 week in the fridge and can be made into ice cubes (wrapped in a dark colored rag). I used to keep it on hand in the house at all times when my daughter was a toddler.
I always chant in my mind or outloud when dressing any injury.
