What people commonly label "their element" is actually just an element that corresponds to their personality. For instance, all hot herbs are corresponded to fire. There is an obvious good reason for this. Gemstones which appear red, orange or gold are generally associated with fire and the personality of fire itself. Each element has its own personality, and that is where most of our correspondences come from. But with people, we look at the person's personality and see what element that particular personality is similar to.

For instance, my husband can never make up his mind. He is very carefree. He is extremely spontaneous, his passion is music (he plays piano and guitar), he loves wild birds, and his favorite color is blue. Can you guess what element he relates to? =) You can't keep him inside on a windy day (he wants to chase storms and I won't let him!).

Some people's personalities relate to more than one element. My personality is predominantly like earth, but I also have many fire traits.

Now this doesn't mean I don't use air and water. I actually love using water in my magick. Every element is connected. If you want to read some interesting philosophies on the elements, look up the (free) google book by Agrippa called The Philosophy of Nature. I found it extremely thought provoking. He had an extraordinary mind.

Can someone say what personality traits relate to what elements?

It is merely those that are similar to the quality of the element.

If the qualities of an element are similar to a personality trait, then they likely correspond with that element.

Beyond this, you worry too much about it. "Your" element does not matter much in the scheme of things, beyond perhaps providing you a source of similarity should you seek to begin studying the energies of the elements.

Correction on the title of that book. It's The Philosophy of Natural Magic. Names are not my memory's favorite thing to store.
