We don't particularly have grounds to blame the lack the oftwo chats being the reason for this issue seeing as it is a rule that members use the chat for magic topics. How strictly that rule is applied is entirely up to those enforcing it.

Yes, the second chat could have a test of sorts to qualify a username to chat there.. that could work.

Sorry Joule, but I think that is a terrible idea. What if a newbie who wanted to learn about magic couldn't go into the magic chatter because they didnt 'qualify'? You see the issue here?

Also, some good points have been raised. Having two chats would be a little confusing to some.

heaven forbid ,

they would actully be forced to actully to read the fourm, and the many wonderfull threads it provides. ie the starting out thread, basics, writing your own spells, both of those thread answers a lot of question which save the rest of us some irratation.

I feel you micah.. but what if social chat was also newbie chat? Then there could be a "private" chat for those beyond the basics.

the only problem i would see with that , A. coding that would be a pain the rear

B. about 72 percent of people on here are newbs. i would like to emphasize i typed 72 percent. before anybody jumps down my preverbal throat. the advanced chat would nearly be empty most the time .

C. i just forgot c.

Lets face it no matter how many chatter we have we will always get them to mix. Thats how it is somone will always come into the other chatter to talk other matters. The only thing your doing is making it harder to moderate.

I agree with BlackSunn that the chats anyway will intermingle ,which will only confuse everyone ,and the moderators will have to take care of multiple chatters which will leave opening for more trolls ,spammers and rulebreakers .They will have more work to deal with and we will have to dealwith double annoyance .Also the idea for chat open only for so called "qualified " folks border with favoritism and leave aside serious newbies .Nobody likes to be cast aside just because he is not good enough according others .

The idea of a social chat is nice, having a separate for different "knowledge levels", not so much. The only reason I state this, is that I already see many of the wiser ones hiding when someone that needs help comes on. It is no big deal if you do not want to help. I have noticed that people already get the chats mixed up though, and many hide in covens. I would love to see more out helping and sharing their opinions (without it turning into arguments). When I was in school we had a group for learning and debate. It was open to all topics, and no one was shunned or insulted for their statements. We just had fun questioning others claims and in the process learned a great deal about things :)
