But still the profiles shouldn't contain very personal information, in the rules it says to keep the content you make or have on this site clean. (this was in my own words)
I personally have a long bio because it shows who I am. All the important stuff is towards the top and the copy paste things toward the bottom. That way I'm not forcing people to read all of it, but it still shows my character.
Those who add their sexual orientation to their profile tell the rest of us that it is part of their personality the defines them.
Those who go out of their way to inform the world that they cut them self are crying out for attention.
Those who state who or what they hate dwell on the negative.
Your profile tells a lot about you whether it is blank or not. Perhaps everyone should think about what it is that they have placed in their profile and mediate on it. This exercise will help you to "know thy self".
Sometimes it's a good thing knowing someone is just crying out for attention instead of them only placing formular like information on their "personal" bio (formula like information they could easily lie on). I know when I try talking to someone so I look at their profiles, I expect to find some insight to their personality and not just bare minimum information.
If they're a negative person, by all means, let them make it known; and so forth with any other form of personality trait.

And might I make a second point that this is a, by Petrarca's words, "Community" website. So by definition it includes social application.
It's not a dating site, no, but it surely is not a business or strictly professional style website, do try to grasp...
I have no idea why people are always concerning themselves with what others are doing? Some people don't like long profiles, some don't like blank, some don't want to see really personal stuff or things that don't seem "necessary" to them. That's fine and dandy. No one is forcing you to like what someone else wrote on their profile. No one is forcing you to read through profiles that are too long in your eyes. The point of a profile is to put things up that you want to and show people what you want them to know about you up front. And a way to share things with others.
Despite the people who write their own profiles as they see fit not forcing anyone to do anything, many of the people on here seem quite desirous of being able to tell others how they ought to fill out their profiles just to simply appease their own personal senses.
Why not just make your profile the best example of a profile you can think of and leave everyone else to their own thing?
It's sort of like that magick principle( or whatever a more appropriate word might be) where if you want to effect change, you start with yourself.
I am somewhat neutral on this subject. As long as there is no profanity, or highly inappropriate information, it should not matter. Every one of my profiles has given mere hints as to the person I am or what I study. I find many people do not even read them or no one would ever question who I am (when they have spoken to me before). If someone feels their sexuality defines who they are, what right do we have to stop them. The copy past stuff however, does kind of ruin the rest of the profile in my opinion.
Personally i am quite heartened that in this day and age people feel comfortable coming out as gay or lesbian on their profile page. Ten or twenty years ago that would not have been as commonplace. To me it's small proof that the world is becoming more excepting of LGBT people, and every time i see someone out and proud, it makes me smile.
Of course there are limits as to what's allowed regarding explicit sexual content, but that applies across the board - gay, straight, or otherwise.
and i also wanted to add that the reason most people have the "dont message me to flirt with me" thing is because it does deter most people away that would otherwise do so.. and i know from personal experience it gets annoying.
